Kasmuel McOure’s Shift from Gen Z Activist to Ruto Ally Draws Backlash
Kasmuel McOure, once celebrated as a key voice for Kenya’s Gen Z during the 2024 Financial Bill protests, is now at the center of heated criticism after he was seen greeting President William Ruto at AIC Kipkorgot in Eldoret.
The Financial Bill protests, driven largely by Kenya’s youth, had shaken the foundations of Ruto’s administration, with McOure emerging as a prominent figure advocating for economic justice and accountability. However, his recent alignment with Ruto and public endorsement by opposition leader Raila Odinga has left many feeling betrayed.
Gen Z’s Outrage Over Kasmuel McOure’s Actions
Kenya’s Gen Z activists, who once rallied behind McOure, now view his association with President Ruto as a betrayal of their cause. Many believe the administration used excessive force during protests, leading to the deaths of several demonstrators.
Renowned human rights activist Morara Kibaso expressed his disappointment on social media, writing:
“Oh My God. Kasmuel Why? Whhhhyyyy? Aren’t these the same people who killed Gen Zs in cold blood and benefited from it. Why? Is it money? Si ungeanza any biz we support you? Kasmuel McOure you have hurt Kenyans who believed in you in a way that you will never ever imagine.”
The sentiment was echoed by numerous social media users, with Cornelius Rono sarcastically commenting, “Siku hizi sellout Kasmuel McOure ameanza kuvaa kama Chepkut.”
Francis Gaitho’s Explosive Remarks
Outspoken political commentator Francis Gaitho also weighed in, claiming he had previously warned Kenyans about McOure’s alleged betrayal. In a strongly worded statement, he said:
“Had you useless pieces of shit listened to me, we’d be a step further in the struggle to liberate Kenya. Why should I unite with a traitor?”
Gaitho went further to criticize another activist, Aoko Otieno, accusing her of advancing divisive agendas.
Social Media Erupts with Mixed Reactions
Social media platforms are flooded with comments reflecting anger, disappointment, and satire. One user remarked: “Kasmuel Mcoure Meets Ruto. Ona vile kamefurahi😂. Mimi anyone who calls himself a ‘Gen Z leader’ i can never Trust again.”

The Bigger Picture
Kasmuel McOure’s shift in allegiance raises significant questions about the future of youth-led activism in Kenya. While some defend his decision as pragmatic political maneuvering, others see it as a clear betrayal of the ideals he once championed.
As the dust settles, one thing is certain: the relationship between Kenya’s Gen Z and their former leader Kasmuel McOure may never be the same again.
