The interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has declared monday 13th a public holiday.
This follows the decision of the Cabinet sitting in Mombasa on Friday November 3, 2023.
According to Kindiki, the Government has declared a special holiday on Monday, November 13, 2023, during which the public across the Country shall be expected to plant trees as a patriotic contribution to the national efforts to save the Country from the devastating effects of Climate Change.
The CS says the National Examinations scheduled for that day shall proceed normally.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares Monday, 13th November, 2023, a public holiday in which the public shall be engaged in tree growing countrywide.
“The exercise is part of Kenya’s Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Programme-Towards the Growing of Fifteen (15) billion trees.” Said Kindiki in a statement seen by the k47 digital news team.
The planting of tree will be presided over by the head of state president William Samoe Ruto according to CS.
“There will be a designated National venue for the tree planting presided over by His Excellency (Dr.) William Samoei Ruto, PhD., C.G.H., the President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, and forty-seven (47) County venues, presided over by Cabinet Secretaries and Governors, where all Kenyan citizens and the general public shall be expected to participate.”
