In a rare blend of sports and military honor, the Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, presided over the promotion of Harambee Stars winger and Ulinzi Stars FC captain, Senior Private Boniface Muchiri, to the rank of Corporal.

The promotion was conferred at a colorful ceremony by Major General Luka Kutto, the General Officer Commanding Eastern Command, in recognition of Muchiri’s outstanding performance at the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Recognition for Sporting Excellence

Muchiri, who has been a key figure for both Harambee Stars and Ulinzi Stars Football Club, was hailed for his dedication, discipline, and consistent performance on both national and international stages.

Congratulating him, General Kahariri said the promotion was not only a reward for his success on the pitch but also a symbol of the Kenya Defence Forces’ (KDF) commitment to nurturing talent within its ranks.

“We are very grateful for your commitment, hard work, and excellent performance while serving Kenya and, by extension, the KDF. We wish you success in future assignments and are confident you will continue to excel,” remarked the CDF.

The recognition comes at a time when Muchiri has been instrumental in Kenya’s CHAN campaign, showcasing not only his footballing prowess but also his ability to inspire fellow soldiers and teammates.

CDF’s Pledge to Strengthen the Club

In response, General Kahariri pledged full support from the KDF leadership to ensure implementation of the committee’s recommendations. He stressed that Ulinzi Stars FC, as a team rooted in the disciplined environment of the military, must continue to uphold values of discipline, teamwork, and excellence both on and off the pitch.
