Gov’t to deploy special forces and elite in Lamu over violence extremism.

To effectively deal with the threat of terrorism and violent extremism, the interior CS Kithure Kindiki says the Government is deploying in Northern Kenya and Upper Coastal regions, including Tana River and Lamu Counties, special forces and elite units to ruthlessly pursue and neutralize armed criminals who are terrorising innocent citizens.

“We salute and pay homage to our multi-agency security officers who have fallen in the line of duty, defending our nation and its people from criminals.” Kindiki said in a statement.

The CS detailed that the Government will continue to equip security officers with modern weapons and technology to enhance their capacity to deal with criminals.

Kindiki warned that the security officers who lawfully use weapons assigned to them to protect themselves from armed criminals as they ensure the safety and security of the residents and their property are assured of Government protection.

He says communities living in border areas must coexist peacefully and allow relevant Government and Judicial institutions to arbitrate whenever there are cross-border disputes.

“National Government Administration Officers are directed to help resolve all historical grievances without taking sides.”According to Kindiki, political leaders must desist from inciting members of the public in the guise of addressing historical grievances.

“Any leader inciting violence and destruction of property will be apprehended and prosecuted, their political affiliation notwithstanding.”

With the deployment of Departmental heads of Government agencies, Kindiki said, Galledyertu is now a fully fledged and operational Sub-County.

“From 1st October 2023, the Government will deploy a contractor to construct Sub-County Headquarters.”

Kindiki spoke this while addressed a security baraza at Wayu, Galledyertu Sub-County, Tana River County.

Tana River Governor Godhana Dhadho, Senator Danson Mungatana, MPs, MCAs and Coast Regional, Tana River County and Galledyertu Sub-County Security and Intelligence Committees in attendance.
