Ugandan General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has stirred up fresh debate across the region after declaring that East Africa must unite as one country. In a bold statement shared on his official X account, Gen Muhoozi wrote: “East Africa must be one! One country! We must be one from the Indian Ocean to the Atlantic! Anyone who says different is an enemy of Africa!!!”
His comments have ignited widespread reactions online, with many interpreting the statement as a renewed push for regional integration under the East African Community (EAC). Others, however, viewed it as a provocative remark following recent tensions between Uganda and Kenya.
The remarks come just days after President Yoweri Museveni, Muhoozi’s father, hinted at possible conflict with Kenya over access to the Indian Ocean — a statement that raised eyebrows across the continent.
Gen Muhoozi, who serves as Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces and is widely seen as Museveni’s potential successor, has often used social media to share his political views. His latest post has reignited conversations on Pan-Africanism, regional unity, and Uganda’s growing influence within East Africa.
Observers now await official responses from Kenya and other EAC member states.
