In a significant development, the Kampala Metropolitan Police have confirmed the arrest of Ashraf Kiiza, the individual at the center of a disturbing incident captured in a viral social media video. Mr. Kiiza, a Ugandan man, had been on the run since the evening of May 13, 2024, following an assault and attempted robbery.
The incident occurred at Bashir Grain Millers in Natete Kutano, where Ashraf Kiiza allegedly attempted to rob Mr. Turyamuhaki Sam. Armed with a panga (machete) and hammer, Mr. Kiiza violently demanded money from Mr. Turyamuhaki, whom he then assaulted. The victim, Mr. Turyamuhaki, is presently receiving medical treatment for his injuries.
According to the Uganda Police statement released on X.com, the Flying Squad unit officers successfully located and apprehended Ashraf Kiiza in Kyotera on May 15. Following his arrest, Mr. Kiiza is now detained at the Nateete Police Station, pending further legal proceedings.
