Race driver Maxine Muringo Wahom, 25, accused of killing fellow driver Asad Khan, has been released on bail of 2 million KSh.

Supreme Court Justice Lillian Mutende said in her ruling on Thursday that prosecutors had not provided convincing evidence to deny bail.

The judge ruled that, under section 49, the accused was entitled to bail under certain conditions, unless there were other reasons for detention.

However, Maxine is expected to keep her passport in court and only travels abroad when necessary and with court permission.

According to the judge, she was also banned from communicating with the witnesses who took down the statement, and if she does so, her bail bail will be revoked.

The state and the victims refused bail, arguing that Wahome could escape or kill the witnesses. This issue will be resolved on April 19 for further guidance.

Wahom, who is accused of killing her boyfriend, told the court last week that she was in an abusive and Inhumans relationship.

She further said that Assad and his brother took all her money and she nothing in her pockets and very little in their account to pay for her bail.

Wahom’s lawyer, Philip Murgor, has asked the court to release her on reasonable bail, arguing that the Assad family had confiscated her car and are demanding 2.9 million kenyan shillings for its release.

However, Judge Lilian Mutende said that the court did not recognize the demands of lawyers and monetary demands for the arrest of the car.
