A dramatic police raid in Kiambaa has ended the reign of terror of a notorious robbery suspect linked to a string of violent crimes in the area. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Stephen Igogo Kariuki, was arrested following a well-coordinated operation by Kiambaa Sub-County law enforcement officers.
According to police reports on 16 August 2025 Saturday, Kariuki had been on their radar for several weeks after residents of Rweno and Kiambaa raised concerns over a series of robberies that left many in fear. His capture was made possible after a crucial tip-off from vigilant members of the public who alerted authorities to his whereabouts.
During the raid, police cornered Kariuki at his hideout. Upon his arrest, officers conducted a detailed search of his residence, where they recovered a retay falcon pistol. Investigators believe the firearm was used in multiple robbery incidents, where victims reported being threatened and, in some cases, physically attacked.
The recovered pistol has been forwarded to the National Forensic Laboratory for ballistic analysis. Experts are expected to determine whether it is directly linked to several unsolved robbery cases in the region. Ballistic results will also help investigators establish whether the weapon had been used in other crimes beyond Kiambaa and Rweno.
Law enforcement officials hailed the arrest as a major breakthrough in restoring safety and security in the area. Residents have long complained about rising cases of robberies, with Kariuki allegedly playing a central role in orchestrating many of the violent attacks.
Speaking after the operation, a senior officer from Kiambaa Sub-County noted that the public’s cooperation was critical in achieving the arrest. He urged residents to continue working closely with law enforcement, emphasizing that community vigilance remains key in the fight against crime.
Kariuki is currently being held in police custody and is expected to be arraigned in court in the coming days. Authorities revealed that he will face multiple charges, including armed robbery, possession of an illegal firearm, and threatening public safety. If found guilty, he could face a lengthy prison sentence.
The arrest has sent a strong message to other criminal gangs in the region, with police reaffirming their commitment to dismantling robbery networks that terrorize residents.
This latest crackdown comes amid heightened police operations across the country, targeting armed criminals who have been taking advantage of unsuspecting citizens. For the people of Rweno and Kiambaa, Kariuki’s arrest brings a renewed sense of security and hope that normalcy will soon be restored.
