The Communication Authority of Kenya Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba has responded to his initial press that seek to censure the 6TV stations that broadcasted live Monday Azimio’s protest.

In a letter dated 24th March 2023, Chiloba says that whenever there are serious political events in the country, the Authority issues advisory notices to all media houses on their broadcasting obligations as set out in the Constitution, Statute and the Programming Code.

“We issued similar notices in the run-up to the August 2022 General Election. This week, we also issued a notice in the context of the demonstrations that took place on 20th March 2023.” The statement read in part.

CA says after issuance of notice on the 6TV stations, the debate that followed shows they were misquoted,
“Having observed the debate following the issuance of our notice, it is clear that our intervention has been taken out of context.” Said Chiloba.

The Communication Authority of Kenya has further said it will respond to a letter from the court suspending it’s letter on Monday live broadcast.

“Be it as it may, it has come to our attention that the High Court has issued Stay Orders of our advisory notice dated 22nd March 2023. We shall respond to the issues raised once served. The Authority reiterates its commitment to promote and protect freedom of the media at all times in accordance with the Constitution.”
