CS Ogamba Confirms Grade 9 Reporting Date

Kenya’s education sector has entered a historic new chapter following the official release of the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and Kenya Pre-Vocational Level Education Assessment (KPLEA) results. Education Cabinet Secretary Migos Ogamba delivered multiple key updates that will affect millions of learners, parents, and schools as the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) continues its rollout.

Speaking on Thursday during the highly anticipated national release of the results, CS Ogamba confirmed that the pioneer Grade 9 cohort will report to school on 12th December 2025, marking a crucial milestone in Kenya’s education transformation. This announcement comes at a time when parents have been anxiously awaiting clarity over the transition process and the capacity of institutions to host the new-level learners.

Ogamba revealed that 1,130,459 candidates sat the 2025 KJSEA exam, all of whom can immediately access their results online. To check their scores, learners are required to log in to the official KNEC results portal using their Assessment Number and any of their registered names. The results have been uploaded and are available without SMS charges, making the platform accessible to families nationwide.

According to the CS, all KJSEA candidates will transition smoothly to Senior School across the nine pathways prescribed under the CBC. He emphasized that the country has more than enough space to accommodate the entire cohort. With 9,540 Senior School institutions ready to receive learners, the government has assured parents that no child will be left behind.

“Today, we are releasing the 2025 KJSEA results for the 1,130,459 learners, all of whom will be placed in appropriate nine pathways at Senior School to lay the foundation for careers of their choice,” Ogamba stated.

He further announced that placement to Senior Schools begins next week and will run until December 20, 2025. The placement exercise will determine which pathways, specializations, or institutions each learner will join, based on their performance, interests, and the capacity of schools. The reporting date for all Senior School learners remains January 12, 2026.

CS Ogamba reassured parents that the transition process is well planned and fully supported by the Ministry of Education. “We therefore have more than enough capacity to accommodate all the learners whose results we are releasing today,” he said confidently.

At the same event, KNEC CEO Dr. David Njengere praised the progress made by Kenya’s assessment systems under the CBC. He described the 2025 KJSEA release as a “landmark moment”, marking the first time Kenya is evaluating learners using a comprehensive mix of both formative and summative assessments accumulated over multiple years.

“This is a landmark moment as the pioneer Grade 9 CBE cohort transitions to Senior School. For the first time, the Kenyan education system will be reporting on learners’ achievement using a rich array of data accumulated over a period of time,” Njengere added.

He expressed confidence in the maturity and robustness of the CBC assessment framework. According to him, the system now gives every learner an equal chance to demonstrate their unique competencies across different settings. “We as an educational assessment institution are confident that the assessment of the candidates whose results we are releasing today gave varying opportunities for individual learners to exhibit their competencies and individual strengths,” he said.

The release of the 2025 KJSEA results has been met with excitement across the country as families celebrate the culmination of the pioneer cohort’s Junior School journey. As Kenya transitions into the Senior School phase of CBC, the Ministry of Education continues to urge parents, teachers, and schools to prepare adequately for the academic changes ahead.
