Nairobi, Kenya — The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is in mourning following the death of veteran politician Georgina Margaret Oketch, who passed away after a brief illness, the party confirmed in a statement on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
Oketch — a former nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) in the Siaya County Assembly — had been an active member of the party’s Disability League, an internal wing of ODM dedicated to empowering persons with disabilities and amplifying their representation in governance.
In its official broadcast on X (formerly Twitter), ODM expressed deep sorrow at her passing, describing her as “a dedicated member of the party whose immense contribution will be missed.” The statement added that the party “mourn[s] the passing on of Hon. Georgina Margaret Oketch … after a short illness. May she RIP.”
Oketch’s death has left a void in Siaya’s political and social circles. As a nominated MCA, she played a key role in representing marginalised groups — especially persons with disabilities — ensuring that their voices were heard at the county level. Moreover, through her involvement with ODM’s Disability League, she advocated for inclusion, equal participation, and empowerment within both the party and public institutions.
Her passing comes amid a difficult time for the ODM, which only recently lost another prominent figure. While the party has not yet disclosed her funeral or burial arrangements, condolences have begun pouring in from colleagues, allies, and members of the public who lauded her dedication and contribution.
As the ODM and the people of Siaya await further details, many reflect on Oketch’s legacy: her service as a nominated MCA, her advocacy for disability inclusion, and her efforts to strengthen grassroots representation. In death, as in life, Georgina Margaret Oketch will be remembered as a champion for the marginalized and a devoted public servant.
