Mombasa, Kenya – In a dramatic and precisely executed operation, law enforcement officers from Mombasa Central Police Station apprehended two suspected drug traffickers and seized a significant amount of cannabis sativa. The incident, which unfolded at the bustling Mwembe Tayari area, came after a vigilant member of the public raised the alarm over a suspicious parcel arriving from Homa Bay via public transport.

According to police reports, the tip-off described a package offloaded from a bus that had just arrived at Mwembe Tayari, sparking immediate concern. Officers responded swiftly, moving discreetly to the bus booking office where the package was scheduled for collection. With keen observation and strategic patience, the officers lay in wait for the intended recipients to arrive.

Their patience paid off. Moments later, two unsuspecting individuals—identified as Pamela Akinyi Ochichi and Daniel Agolla Ogweno—showed up to collect the parcel. Unaware that their every move was being monitored, the pair casually approached the counter. In a coordinated and swift move, police officers swooped in, arresting them on the spot.

The suspects, along with the suspicious parcel, were immediately escorted to Mombasa Central Police Station. Upon a thorough inspection, the package was found to contain multiple rolls of cannabis sativa, neatly packed and concealed—evidence of a sophisticated trafficking attempt.

Authorities have since confirmed that the two individuals are in custody and currently undergoing formal processing. They are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete and charges are formally preferred. Meanwhile, the seized narcotics have been booked as exhibits and are being held as evidence pending court proceedings.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, one officer praised the sharp eye and quick action of the informant who tipped off the authorities. “It’s because of public cooperation that we managed to make this arrest. Community vigilance plays a vital role in the war against drug trafficking,” the officer noted.

This latest bust adds to a growing list of narcotics-related arrests in coastal Kenya, a region long plagued by drug smuggling due to its strategic location. Authorities have stepped up surveillance and community engagement initiatives aimed at curbing the flow of illegal substances.

Police are urging the public to continue being alert and report any suspicious activities, especially involving unusual parcels or individuals behaving oddly at public transportation hubs.

As Pamela Akinyi and Daniel Ogweno await their day in court, the message from law enforcement is clear: drug trafficking will not be tolerated, and community collaboration is key to ending the scourge.
