The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched an intensive manhunt for a suspect linked to a high-profile theft involving millions of shillings stolen from the accounts office of an undisclosed institution in May 2025.

The suspect, identified as Alosi Rodgers Ochieng’, is wanted in connection with a case of Stealing by Servant, a charge that typically involves employees abusing their positions to commit theft within their workplace. According to the DCI’s Serious Crimes Unit, preliminary investigations have placed Ochieng’ at the crime scene, where it is alleged he and his accomplices orchestrated a sophisticated break-in targeting the institution’s financial offices.

Authorities revealed that the suspects not only gained unauthorized access to the accounts office but also made away with an undisclosed amount of money and other valuables. The total value of the stolen items is reported to be in the millions, making it one of the most significant internal heists under investigation this year.

The DCI said that Ochieng’ and his accomplices vanished immediately after the crime was discovered. “On detection of the theft, Rodgers and his partners in crime holed up never to show up at work,” reads a statement released by the Serious Crimes Unit. Investigators believe this behaviour was an intentional attempt to avoid arrest and frustrate the probe into the daring theft.

The DCI has since circulated a photograph of Ochieng’ and appealed to members of the public to assist in tracing his whereabouts. “Should you have any information on his whereabouts or that could assist in his arrest, please report at any police station or through #FichuakwaDCI by calling our toll-free hotline 0800 722 203 any time 24/7,” the statement continued.

The case has sparked concern over security protocols within institutions, particularly those handling large sums of money. Experts have warned that such crimes, when committed internally, are often harder to detect until the damage is already done.

Ochieng’s sudden disappearance alongside his fellow suspects has also raised questions about whether the group had prior knowledge of internal security systems and potential loopholes within the institution. While the DCI has yet to release further information on the identity of the accomplices, it is believed that multiple individuals were involved and that the theft was planned over a period of time.

Law enforcement agencies across the country have now been alerted, and security personnel have been instructed to remain vigilant. Members of the public are being urged not to approach the suspect if spotted, but instead to immediately contact authorities using the toll-free number or report to the nearest police station.

The Serious Crimes Unit, which is leading the investigation, has expressed confidence in tracking down the suspects, citing forensic evidence and digital trails that are being analysed as part of the ongoing inquiry.

This latest incident adds to a growing list of internal theft cases reported in both private and public institutions across Kenya in recent years. The DCI has reiterated its commitment to cracking down on such crimes and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.

As the manhunt intensifies, the DCI is counting on public cooperation to aid in the capture of Alosi Rodgers Ochieng’, who remains on the run as investigators continue to piece together the full extent of the heist and the network involved.
