In a chilling revelation, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused state agents of intense surveillance and intimidation, likening the current situation to the dark days of the Moi regime. Gachagua detailed how unmarked vehicles have been trailing him and staking out his Nairobi residence, raising concerns about his safety.
Speaking out on social media, Gachagua described an incident involving a saloon car parked outside his Nairobi home, which later followed him to PCEA Kerarapon Church, a lunch venue, and back to his house. Shockingly, the car’s number plates, upon verification through the NTSA portal, were registered to a lorry.
The former DP expressed fears about the growing culture of extrajudicial actions, forced disappearances, and abductions, which he attributes to state agencies. “This surveillance and intimidation of Kenyans was last witnessed during the era of the dreaded ‘Special Branch’ during the 24 years of Moi’s misrule,” he lamented.
Gachagua urged the government to stop targeting him and allow him to live peacefully as a private citizen. He also warned that should anything happen to him, the state would be held accountable.
This statement has sparked national debate, with many Kenyans taking to social media to express their views on the former DP’s claims.
