Speculation surrounding Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru’s marriage has intensified after she appeared to dismiss widespread claims that she had separated from her husband, lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo.

The rumours gained traction on social media after a Facebook post alleged that the couple had quietly ended their marriage. The viral post also revisited the story of how Waiguru and Waiganjo met during Kenya’s 2009 constitutional review process, claiming they fell in love while travelling to a constitutional forum in Mombasa.

According to the circulating post, the two were consultants involved in the constitution-making process. It further narrated that they first connected while crossing the Likoni Ferry, shared a simple meal of bread and soda, and later developed their relationship through frequent phone conversations. The post also claimed Waiganjo eventually proposed at Lord Erroll Hotel before the couple held their traditional engagement in February 2019.

However, despite the viral claims, no official statement or credible evidence has been presented to confirm that the two have separated.

Instead, Waiguru appeared to respond in a light-hearted manner through her verified X (formerly Twitter) account.

In a post that quickly attracted thousands of views, the Kirinyaga Governor shared photos of herself with Waiganjo and jokingly wrote:

“I’m heartbroken, I can’t accept being left in this whole Gichugu cold 😂”

The humorous message, which tagged her husband, was widely interpreted by many Kenyans as a sarcastic response to the separation rumours. The accompanying photos showed the couple smiling together, reinforcing the impression that they remain on good terms.

Many supporters praised the governor for responding with humour instead of issuing a lengthy statement, arguing that the photos spoke louder than the speculation circulating on social media.

Others, however, noted that public figures often face intense scrutiny over their private lives and cautioned against drawing conclusions from unverified online claims.
