Tharaka Nithi Police Nab Suspected Drug Peddler With 33 Rolls of Cannabis in Itugururu Market Crackdown

Police officers in Tharaka Nithi County have intensified their fight against narcotics after arresting a suspected drug peddler in Itugururu on Monday, August 18, 2025. The crackdown, carried out by officers from the National Police Service (NPS) stationed at Itugururu Police Post, led to the recovery of 33 rolls of cannabis.

According to a statement issued by the NPS, the operation was prompted by intelligence received from members of the public. Residents alerted police about a notorious drug peddler allegedly operating around the Itugururu Matatu Stage, prompting swift action from patrolling officers.

The officers immediately responded and spotted the suspect. However, upon noticing the presence of police, the suspect attempted to escape by fleeing towards nearby buildings. After a brief pursuit, the suspect was apprehended and a thorough search conducted, leading to the discovery of the rolls of cannabis.

The suspect is currently being held in custody at Itugururu Police Post as investigations continue. Authorities confirmed that the narcotics have been secured as exhibits, and the suspect is expected to be processed and arraigned in court in the coming days.

The National Police Service has commended the residents of Itugururu for their cooperation, noting that community policing remains a crucial tool in combating the proliferation of illegal substances across the country.
