Detectives have arrested a man accused of orchestrating a daring ransom plot that saw an Indian-Kenyan victim lured into a trap and held hostage for money.
Frankline Otieno Odhiambo, 28, is alleged to have masterminded the scheme with the help of two accomplices, a woman identified only as Carol and a man known as Adan. The trio is said to have staged the kidnapping using Carol as bait. She invited the unsuspecting victim to her home in Mirema, Kasarani, under the guise of a business meeting.
Once the victim arrived, Carol reportedly signaled Otieno and Adan to barge in, accusing the shocked visitor of stealing from Otieno. The gang then threatened the victim with dire consequences unless he handed over family contact information to arrange a ransom.
Family Pays Ksh 310,000 in Desperation
Terrified for the victim’s safety, the family quickly gathered Ksh 310,000 as an advance payment before alerting authorities at Parklands Police Station, Kabati Police Station in Thika, and through the #FichuakwaDCI hotline.
In response, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) launched a swift operation led by their Head of Operations. Crime researchers and field officers tracked the suspects to Mirema, where Otieno was arrested.
Otieno Nabbed, Accomplices Escape
While Otieno was caught at the hideout, his accomplices managed to slip away after collecting their share of the ransom. Detectives recovered the mobile phone used to contact the victim’s family, which will be used as evidence.
The victim has since been reunited with his family, who expressed relief and gratitude for the timely intervention by law enforcement.
Court Hearing and Manhunt
Otieno remains in police custody and is set to appear in court, while the search for Carol and Adan continues. Authorities are urging anyone with information on their whereabouts to come forward.
This case is among the growing sophistication of ransom schemes in urban areas, as detectives intensify their crackdown on criminal gangs.
