The Nairobi County Senator Hon. Edwin Sifuna has revealed who is responsible for power outage at KPLC.
His remarks come barely a day after power outage across the country that led to reshuffle at KAA top management.
In a statement via twitter, Sifuna says he has come to learn of a “very powerful” office at Kenya Power Limited Company called “dispatcher.
According to Sifuna, the “dispatcher” has a view of all the power generation plants and decides whose power is “dispatched” (added to the grid) and when.
“In my time as a member of the Senate Energy Committee I have come to learn of a very powerful office at KPLC called a “dispatcher “. A person who has a view of all our power generation plants and decides whose power is “dispatched” (added to the grid) and when.
“We heard testimony from cheaper green energy generators being “curtailed” (essentially being told not to supply) with the dispatcher opting for electricity from more expensive thermal generators.” Said Sifuna.
Sifuna says he has prepared a Bill to parliament to make the power distribution company more “transparent.”
“I have prepared an amendment to the Energy Act to bring greater transparency hapo kwa dispatcher. Hapo kuna mchezo. The bill is ready for publication.” He said.
