A wave of grief has swept across Kenya following the heartbreaking death of gospel singer and political activist Rachel Wandeto, who reportedly succumbed to injuries after a horrific petrol attack in Mwiki, Nairobi.

According to family members, Wandeto developed serious complications while undergoing surgery before passing away in the early hours of Monday morning. Sources close to the family revealed that she crashed three times while in theatre and was later transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at around 3am. Despite desperate efforts by doctors to save her life, she died at approximately 3:45am.

Her death has shocked many Kenyans, especially after details emerged about the brutal attack that left her with severe burns across most parts of her body.

Rachel Wandeto had gained national attention in recent months after publicly tattooing the face of President William Ruto on her body alongside political messages supporting his leadership. She painfully recounted that she had been walking while carrying luggage when she noticed a group of men trailing her. The men reportedly confronted her, forced her to keep walking, and later dragged her aside before pouring petrol on her body and setting her ablaze.

The horrifying incident left residents in shock and sparked widespread condemnation from leaders, activists, and ordinary Kenyans.

Medical reports indicated that Wandeto suffered approximately 70 percent burns. She was initially rushed to Uzima Uhai Hospital before being transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialized treatment due to the severity of her injuries.

Doctors reportedly worked tirelessly throughout the weekend in an attempt to stabilize her condition. Before her death, several government officials and public figures had visited her in hospital. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen condemned the attack and described it as barbaric and unacceptable.
