In a dramatic turn of events that has sent shockwaves across Naivasha, detectives have apprehended a man believed to be the mastermind behind a sophisticated phone theft syndicate. The suspect, 33-year-old Peter Mburu, was arrested in a well-coordinated operation carried out by sleuths in the bustling town of Naivasha.

According to sources within the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the arrest was the culmination of days of intensive surveillance and intelligence gathering. Acting on a tip-off from members of the public, the detectives launched a raid on Mburu’s business premises, which is situated in the Sera Center Building, a location well-known for electronic shops.

Upon storming the shop, officers found Mburu in the act of flashing a range of stolen mobile phones, an illegal practice that involves resetting devices to wipe out data and make them untraceable. The operation not only exposed the suspect’s criminal activities but also uncovered the tools of his trade, revealing the extent of the syndicate’s reach.

A comprehensive search of the premises led to the recovery of 27 assorted mobile phones believed to have been stolen from unsuspecting victims, as well as one HP laptop and a specialized mobile phone flashing kit. The kit, detectives believe, played a central role in erasing vital information from the stolen phones before they were resold to unsuspecting customers.

“This is not just a case of phone theft,” said a senior officer involved in the investigation. “It is a well-established criminal enterprise that we believe has been in operation for several months, if not years.”

Mburu is currently being held at Naivasha Police Station as investigations continue. He is expected to face multiple charges, including possession of suspected stolen property, handling stolen goods, and tampering with electronic evidence.

Authorities are urging members of the public who may have purchased phones from the suspect’s shop or lost their devices in suspicious circumstances to visit Naivasha Police Station and assist with the identification process.

As the suspect awaits arraignment in court, police have reaffirmed their commitment to cracking down on all forms of electronic crime and bringing perpetrators to justice.
