Missing Man Found Dead Hanging from Tree After 4 Months

Shock and sorrow have engulfed Iten town in Elgeyo Marakwet County after the body of a man who went missing four months ago was discovered hanging from a tree in Mindililwo Sub-location.

The deceased, identified as 47-year-old Samuel Kimutai Kibet, popularly known by locals as Marangi, had disappeared on May 19, 2025, leaving his family and community in anguish. His mysterious disappearance had raised concerns across Kapsio village, where he lived, with relatives tirelessly appealing for information about his whereabouts.

According to police reports, Kibet’s remains were spotted on a tree deep within a thicket in Mindililwo. Investigators at the scene suggested that the cause of death was likely suicide by hanging, though a postmortem is expected to confirm the exact circumstances. The body, already in an advanced state of decomposition, indicates that he may have died shortly after going missing in May.
