Police officers in Kisumu Central, Kisumu County, have foiled a bizarre livestock theft incident after intercepting a suspicious vehicle carrying two cows tied up in its boot.
According to a report released by the National Police Service (NPS), the dramatic incident occurred on the morning of Tuesday, November 11, 2025, during a routine patrol in the Kikomi area.
The officers, who were on regular surveillance duties, spotted a silver Toyota Noah, registration number KCV 926J, moving suspiciously along a dusty stretch of road. When they signaled the driver to stop, he defied the order and sped off. Moments later, the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, disappearing into nearby bushes.
Upon conducting a search, the officers were stunned to discover two cows tied up in the boot of the vehicle. The animals, believed to have been stolen from a nearby homestead, were found in distress but alive. Police secured the livestock and impounded the vehicle as investigations into the incident continue.
The National Police Service commended the officers for their vigilance, swift response, and commitment to protecting property and maintaining law and order.
“The Service remains steadfast in combating crime and ensuring that those who attempt to profit from illegal activities are brought to justice,” the NPS said in a statement.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, urging residents to provide any information that may assist in his arrest.
This latest incident adds to a growing list of livestock theft cases being reported in parts of western Kenya, as authorities intensify efforts to dismantle organized criminal networks involved in the vice.
