In a major breakthrough, police in Isiolo have seized a cache of ammunition and military gear during a late-night operation at a roadblock along the Marsabit-Isiolo highway. The haul, intercepted at the Hospital Junction roadblock at 1:30 a.m., included 158 rounds of live ammunition and various military-grade items concealed in a brown bag.
The operation saw officers stop a Mitsubishi Fuso lorry, registration number KCY 271N, for inspection. Upon a thorough search, they uncovered 142 rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition commonly used in AK-47 rifles, 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition primarily used in pistols, a rifle cleaning kit, military boots, tactical and combat shirts, trousers, a camelbak, and a ground sheet.
Four suspects were arrested during the operation. The detainees include the driver, Arako Abdullahi, and three others identified as Ali Hussein, 28, Udheifa Yusuf Garre, 20, and Khalid Abdi Rashid Garre, 18. The lorry and the seized items are currently held at the Isiolo Police Station.
A multi-agency team is conducting a detailed investigation to establish the origins and intended destination of the ammunition and military gear. This seizure raises concerns about potential security threats and the circulation of illegal arms in the region.
