In a significant development, the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists’ Union (KMPDU) has announced the postponement of a scheduled peaceful demonstration by doctors, originally slated for the 7th of May 2024.

The decision to delay the demonstration was communicated to all KMPDU members in a formal statement issued by Dr. Davji Bhimji Atelah, the Secretary General & CEO of KMPDU.

According to the statement seen by K47 digital news team, the postponement was prompted by ongoing negotiations aimed at addressing the concerns and grievances raised by the union.

“We write to inform you that the scheduled Tuesday Peaceful Demonstration, originally planned for 7th May 2024 has been postponed to a later date.

“This decision comes in light of ongoing negotiation that has been scheduled for today, 7h May 2024, at 10:00 am.” The statement read in part.

Negotiations, crucially important for finding resolutions to the issues at hand, were scheduled to commence on the same day as the planned demonstration, the 7th of May 2024, at 10:00 am.

The union expressed optimism that engaging in these negotiations would lead to meaningful progress in addressing the underlying issues.

“We believe that engaging in the negotiation is crucial in addressing the concerns and grievances that led to the planned demonstration.” Said Dr Atela, the KMPDU boss.

Dr. Atelah emphasized the importance of keeping all KMPDU members informed about developments related to the negotiations and the rescheduled date for the demonstration.

The union’s statement also extended apologies for any inconvenience caused by the change in plans, highlighting the union’s appreciation for the understanding and support of its members during this period of negotiation and dialogue.
