Last night, at around 2030 hours at Josa area along Wundanyi Mwatate Road, a fatal road accident involving a PSV bus make Nissan happened, Mwatate police confirms.
Onboard the bus were about 34 adult passengers including children from aburial at Mghambonyi area.
Preliminary investigations by police indicate that the motor vehicle was moving from Wundanyi General direction heading towards Mwatate direction.
Upon reaching Josa area, the vehicle veered off the road and rolled several times before landing into a ditch about 100 metres from the road.
The accident reportedly claimed ten lives, ( nine female and one male, all adults).
17 people were slightly injured. Three children and one Infant also seriously injured.
All victims were taken to Mwatate Sub County Hospital and Moi Level 5 Hospital for treatment. The driver is still in a critical condition.
Efforts are underway to retrieve the extensively damaged vehicle. So far five dead bodies have been positively identified.
