  • Special Needs Education (SNE) institutions
  • Curriculum Support Offices

This broad distribution reflects the Commission’s efforts to strengthen leadership and instructional support throughout Kenya’s education system.

General Eligibility Requirements

While each advertised position has its own specific requirements, applicants are generally expected to meet several conditions before qualifying for promotion.

Among the key considerations are:

  • Serving in the feeder grade for the required minimum period.
  • Maintaining satisfactory performance records through the Teacher Performance Appraisal and Development (TPAD) system.
  • Demonstrating leadership, supervisory and mentoring abilities.
  • Meeting the academic and professional qualifications prescribed for the specific position.

Teachers are encouraged to carefully review the requirements for the position they intend to apply for before submitting their applications.

Importance of the Promotion Exercise

Teacher promotions are a critical part of the Career Progression Guidelines implemented by TSC. Besides recognising professional experience and good performance, promotions enable teachers to assume greater responsibilities in school administration, curriculum implementation and instructional leadership.

Promotion also allows successful applicants to move to higher job groups and T-Scales, resulting in improved remuneration and expanded leadership roles within schools and other educational institutions.

The exercise is expected to address long-standing concerns from teachers awaiting career progression while helping to fill leadership gaps in schools across the country.

Deadline for Applications

Eligible teachers have until Monday, August 10, 2026 at midnight to submit their applications.

Because the application process is entirely online, applicants are advised to complete and submit their forms early to avoid last-minute technical challenges that may arise as the deadline approaches.

With more than 34,000 promotion vacancies available, this recruitment exercise presents one of the biggest career advancement opportunities for Kenyan teachers in 2026. Teachers who meet the eligibility criteria are encouraged to apply within the stipulated timeline to maximise their chances of securing promotion in the latest TSC exercise.
