Teachers in Kenya are pushing for better exam allowances as preparations for the 2026 national exams continue. The figures circulating among education stakeholders show what many contracted professionals expect to earn for supervising, invigilating and managing exam centres.

For KCSE, teachers expect KSh 680 per day for supervisors, KSh 510 for invigilators and KSh 550 for centre managers.

For KJSEA, the expected rates are KSh 4,080 for supervisors, KSh 3,300 for centre managers and KSh 3,070 for invigilators.

For KPSEA, supervisors are expecting KSh 2,535, centre managers KSh 1,615 and invigilators KSh 1,665.

Teachers say the duties involve long hours, early reporting and heavy responsibility, while concerns over delayed payments from previous exams still linger. Earlier this year, KNEC said payments were being processed, and Parliament later approved KSh 1.5 billion to clear unpaid exam-related dues from the 2025 national examinations.

Unions continue to argue that the allowances do not match the workload, and stakeholders are now waiting for KNEC to announce the official rates and deployment plans for the 2026 exams.
