Three police officers died on the spot in a grisly road accident this morning when their Toyota Land Cruiser collided head-on with a trailer at Matisi along the busy Webuye-Malaba Highway.
Eyewitnesses reported the police vehicle was responding to an emergency when the trailer veered into its lane, causing a catastrophic impact that left the cruiser mangled beyond recognition. The officers—whose identities remain withheld pending family notifications—were pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident has sparked outrage over the deteriorating safety conditions along the Webuye-Malaba corridor, notorious for reckless truck drivers and poor visibility. Local leaders are demanding immediate installation of speed cameras and stricter enforcement of traffic laws.
“These deaths were preventable,” said Trans Nzoia County Police Commander, confirming a multi-agency probe into the crash. “We’ve lost brave officers to the same stretch repeatedly.”
The tragedy comes just weeks after a similar collision claimed five lives near the same spot, raising urgent questions about the highway’s design and maintenance.
