The Ministry of Education has issued a directive for the closure of boarding sections in 348 primary schools across Kenya. This decision follows an extensive assessment conducted in September and October 2024 to evaluate compliance with the Safety Standards Manual for Schools in Kenya (2008) and the Registration Guidelines for Basic Education Institutions (2021).

The evaluation revealed widespread safety violations, prompting authorities to order immediate closure. Parents of affected students have been urged to arrange alternative accommodations.
