The Kenyan Ministry of Education has reinforced a strict ban on non-academic activities during the third term of the school year. Principal Secretary Dr. Belio Kipsang emphasized that the directive is intended to focus academic preparation for national exams and prevent potential exam malpractices.
Originally introduced by former Education CS Fred Matiang’i, the policy prohibits activities such as prayer days, visiting days, motivational talks, sports events, and even half-term breaks. Dr. Kipsang directed regional, county, and sub-county education officials to ensure schools comply fully with the rules. The move is aimed at preventing disruptions during the examination period, particularly addressing instances of cheating that have been associated with external visits and activities.
With the third term starting on August 26, 2024, and ending on October 25, 2024, students will remain in school without breaks during this critical period. This time is crucial for those preparing for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), and other national exams.
