Nairobi, Kenya – In a powerful and unprecedented move, Kenyan youth, represented by the vibrant Gen Z generation, have penned a scathing letter addressed to President William Samoei Ruto, demanding immediate action and accountability. The letter, sent to all media houses with a directive for immediate publication and broadcast, highlights the growing frustration among Kenyan youth regarding the current administration’s handling of national issues and dialogues.
A Call for Genuine Dialogue.
The letter begins by expressing deep concern and outright condemnation of President Ruto’s recent decision to appoint a select few members to participate in national dialogues on critical issues affecting Kenya. This move, according to the youth, is seen as a blatant disregard for democratic principles and an insult to the intelligence and resolve of the Kenyan public.
“It is clear to us that you intend to manipulate these dialogues by dictating the agenda and handpicking participants – those who can be easily swayed or bought,” the letter states. The youth challenge the effectiveness of such dialogues, pointing to the recent demonstrations where thousands have taken to the streets to voice their concerns, illustrating that the collective will of the people cannot be represented by a few appointed individuals.
Demand for Public Accountability.
The youth demand a public accountability forum at Nyayo Stadium or Kasarani, where the President, his ministers, and MPs will be held accountable for their promises. This demand is described as non-negotiable, with the youth vowing not to rest until their voices are heard and their demands met.
The letter takes a critical tone, questioning the President’s previous statements and actions. “What did you mean when you said, ‘Hii Serikali ni Mama Mboga and Watu Wa Boda Boda’? Who among your ministers was a Mama Mboga or a Boda Boda rider?” they ask, challenging the authenticity of his statements.
Condemnation of Corruption and Unconstitutional Actions.
The letter also calls out the alleged corruption within the government, specifically pointing to Cabinet Secretaries and appointees with criminal backgrounds. The youth condemn the implementation of the Housing Levy, labeling it as unconstitutional, and criticize the President for inviting church leaders with questionable integrity to the State House.
“We demand the following,” the letter continues, listing a series of demands aimed at holding the President accountable:
- Immediate scrapping of the Housing Levy.
- Immediate cessation of the SHIF and reinstatement of the NHIF.
- Immediate dismissal of Moses Kuria and Murkomen.
- Replacement of the Leader of Majority, Kimani Ichung’wa, due to alleged criminal activities.
- Replacement of the Chair of Finance, MP Kimani Molo.
- Immediate halt to the hiring of alleged CASs who are close personal acquaintances of the President.
- Reintroduction of the School Feeding Program.
A Generation’s Outcry for Change
The letter ends with a powerful reminder of the youth’s determination and resolve. “Mr. Ruto, what have you accomplished so far for the people of Kenya? Your actions speak louder than your words, and we demand accountability for every promise made.”
This letter is not just a critique of the current administration but a call to action, reflecting the genuine concerns and aspirations of the Kenyan people, particularly the youth. It underscores the need for genuine dialogue, transparency, and accountability in governance.
As the nation watches, it remains to be seen how President Ruto and his administration will respond to these demands. One thing is clear: the youth of Kenya are no longer willing to remain silent and are ready to hold their leaders accountable in their quest for a better future.
