Edu’ Ministry makes changes as jnr school teacher surge.

According to recent reviews by Ministry of Education, learners in Kenyan schools will have fewer subjects and lessons per day after recent review of Competent Based Curriculum CBC.

Daily nation publication reports that learning areas for Grade 1 to 3 will seven. Grade 4 to 6 is set to have eight learning areas instead of 10 subjects.

Junior school (Grade 7 to 9) is set to have 9 rather than 14 core subjects.

Primary school enrollment is set to decline after restructuring up to Grade 6.

Conversely, Junior Secondary admissions will increase as students move from Grade 8 to Grade 9.

Congestion is expected to worsen in high schools as Form Ones report.

The demand for Junior secondary teachers is also expected to rise from 73,000 to 120,923.

By contrast, primary schools are expected to have much fewer teachers as the number of years spent in primary school reduces from eight to six.

Universities are also set to review their Bachelor of Education degree programme to align with CBC at secondary school level by the start of 2023/2024 academic year.

The first virtual public university in Kenya is expected to admit students.
