University Student Charged Over Fake Post on Ruto Funeral

A university student appeared at the Milimani Law Courts today over allegations of publishing false information regarding President William Ruto.

This was brought to light by Office of Director Of Public Prosecution ODPP through it X platform formerly Twitter.

David Oaga Mokaya, who goes by the handle “Landlord @bozgabi” on X (formerly Twitter), is accused of sharing an image depicting a funeral procession with a casket draped in the Kenyan flag, escorted by military officers in ceremonial attire. The post allegedly implied it was President Ruto’s body being transported.

Prosecutors revealed that Mokaya fabricated the date on the post to make it appear credible. The offense reportedly occurred on November 13, 2024, at an undisclosed location within Kenya.

Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Benmark Ekhumbi, Mokaya pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court granted him a bond of KSh 100,000 or a cash bail alternative of KSh 50,000.

The case is set for mention on December 4, 2024.
