UDA senator reacts to Gov’t move to import duty free Maize.

The United Democratic Alliance senator Hon Samson Cherargei has reacted on the President William Samoe Ruto’s Gov’t move to import duty free Maize.

In a statement via twitter post, Cherargei noted that farmers agree with the Gov’t initiative to address grains shortage that is currently hitting the country.

“As farmers we agree with govt to import duty free maize/ grains to address shortage in the country & make food affordable to Kenyans upto May when maize from South Rift shall be ready. Subsidy of production over consumption shall lower cost of living in kenya.” Cherargei said.

He expressed his gratitude to the Gov’t for giving farmers time to sell their maize at ksh6000 per bag.

“We are greatful to National government for give maize farmers window period to sale their maize between November 2022 to March 2023 at cost of 6000/= per bag in the market where we recouped the cost of production. The subsidy of fertilisers shall make production cheaper.”
