Detectives in Kiambu Sub-County have successfully cracked a shocking kidnapping case, rescuing a victim and arresting five suspects linked to the crime. The dramatic rescue operation unfolded after an attempted ransom demand in Ruaka, thrusting Thindigua and its residents into the spotlight.
According to reports, the ordeal began when the victim’s girlfriend placed a phone call to her boyfriend, only for an unfamiliar voice to pick up. The mysterious caller brazenly demanded Sh500,000 ransom for the victim’s safe release, a move that immediately raised alarm.
DCI Kenya Swings Into Action
Following the distress call, Kiambu-based detectives mounted an intelligence-driven operation to trace the perpetrators. Their meticulous tracking led them to Ithanga, where they discovered the victim in dire condition. He had sustained multiple visible injuries and was wearing a blood-stained shirt, clear evidence of the violence he had endured at the hands of his abductors.
The swift police response culminated in the arrest of five suspects identified as:
- Sydney Ezra Achanda
- John Louise Omondi
- Enock Sum Cheruyot
- Peter Kanini Mwangi
- Lucy Sara Muhonja
The suspects were cornered near Quickmatt Thindigua, where they were intercepted before they could escape further.
Vehicles, Weapons, and Ransom Money Recovered
In addition to rescuing the victim, detectives also impounded two vehicles allegedly used in the kidnapping operation — a Suzuki Swift (registration KDD 841D) and a Mazda Demio (registration KDP 468Y).
A search of the vehicles yielded crucial evidence, including:
- A kitchen knife believed to have been used to intimidate the victim
- Ten assorted mobile phones
- A tablet and other personal items
Shockingly, investigators confirmed that the suspects had already managed to extort Sh68,000 in ransom money before their capture.
Suspects Await Court
The five suspects are currently in police custody and are undergoing processing at the Kiambu Sub-County DCI headquarters. They are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are finalized.
Authorities have since commended the vigilance of the victim’s girlfriend, whose quick thinking and immediate reporting led to the timely rescue. Law enforcement officials have also reassured the public that security operations in Ruaka, Thindigua, and the larger Kiambu County will be intensified to curb the rising trend of organized crime.
