Safaricom has restored Fuliza service after an outage around noon.

The glitch on the largest telecommunication company appears to have affected thousands of customers who used the service to send money and purchase goods and services.

The overdraft service allows Mpesa customers to make transactions even if their account does not have enough funds.

In 2018, the Commercial Bank of Africa teamed up with Safaricom to launch a new M-PESA wallet feature called Fuliza, in addition to the existing 30-day loans currently available as M-Shwari.

At the time, Isaac Awondo, managing director of CBA Group, said the challenge was to overcome the failure rate of daily mobile money transactions due to lack of funds.
