Maseno School marked an extraordinary milestone as the institution celebrated 120 years of academic excellence in a colorful ceremony presided over by President William Ruto. The event turned into a historic moment for the school after the Head of State announced a series of major pledges and development projects expected to transform the institution’s infrastructure and learning environment.

The celebrations attracted alumni, education stakeholders, government officials, parents, students, and distinguished guests from different parts of the country. The institution, widely recognized as one of Kenya’s oldest and most prestigious national schools, used the anniversary to unveil its ambitious modernization agenda aimed at improving learning facilities and maintaining its long-standing reputation for excellence.

One of the most significant announcements made during the event was the President’s directive regarding teachers employed by the Board of Governors. President Ruto instructed the Ministry of Education to ensure that 25 out of the school’s 40 BOG teachers are employed on Permanent and Pensionable terms. The move was welcomed by teachers and parents, who described it as a major relief that would strengthen academic delivery and staff stability at the school.

The President also donated Ksh. 2 million to support student meals. The contribution was received with excitement from students and school administrators, who noted that the support would help improve student welfare and ensure learners continue studying in a comfortable environment.

In addition, the school band received Ksh. 1 million from the President in recognition of its impressive performance during the anniversary celebrations. The Maseno School band has over the years gained recognition for its discipline and excellence during national functions and school events.

The celebrations also highlighted the efforts of the Maseno School Old Boys Association, commonly known as MOBA. The alumni association successfully raised Ksh. 80 million toward the institution’s infrastructure development projects. President Ruto directed that the funds be used to construct pathways workshops, ICT laboratories, and modern science laboratories to align the school with the demands of the Competency-Based Curriculum and modern education systems.

The President further pledged to mobilize his friends and partners to help construct 40 new classrooms at the institution. According to the announcement, 20 classrooms are expected to be completed before the end of this year while the remaining 20 classrooms will be constructed in 2027.

The classroom expansion project is expected to address congestion and improve the learning environment for students. Education stakeholders attending the event described the announcement as one of the biggest boosts the institution has received in recent years.

Another major development unveiled during the celebration was the plan by the Ministry of Housing to construct 2,000 housing units for accommodation at Maseno School. The institution has historically faced accommodation challenges because many students do not stay in conventional dormitories.

The housing project is expected to transform student accommodation and improve living conditions within the school. Many alumni and education experts noted that the project would significantly modernize the institution and provide a more conducive environment for learners.

The Ministry of Education also committed to constructing a modern multipurpose hall at the school. The facility is expected to support indoor games, conferences, academic events, cultural activities, and large school gatherings.
