Outspoken TikToker Arrested After Claiming He Was Paid Ksh 3.5 Million to Kill Prominent Kenyan

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a popular TikToker identified as Roy Otieno Odhiambo for allegedly spreading false information through a viral video shared on his social media page.

According to a statement released by the DCI, the suspect was apprehended following thorough investigations into claims he made in a video posted on October 20, 2025. In the video, Odhiambo sensationally alleged that he had received Ksh 3.5 million to assassinate a prominent Kenyan personality.

The disturbing video quickly gained traction on TikTok, sparking widespread public concern and prompting detectives to launch an urgent probe. After days of tracking his movements, investigators traced the suspect to his hideout in Malindi, where he was arrested.

The DCI confirmed that Odhiambo has since been processed and is awaiting arraignment, where he will face charges related to publishing false information contrary to the law.

Authorities have cautioned members of the public against misusing social media platforms to spread unverified or false claims that may cause public alarm or interfere with national security operations. The DCI emphasized that digital spaces are not beyond the reach of the law, and individuals who engage in the dissemination of false information will be held accountable.

“This arrest serves as a warning to those who use social media irresponsibly. The DCI will continue to monitor online activity and take firm action against those spreading falsehoods,” read part of the DCI’s statement.

The agency further reminded Kenyans that while freedom of expression is protected under the Constitution, it must be exercised responsibly and within the confines of the law.

Roy Otieno Odhiambo is expected to appear in court soon as investigations into his claims continue.
