Two police officers were beaten to death by a mob in the Kanthanje area of Tharaka Nithi county on Saturday evening.
According to Deputy County Commissioner Julius Arap Too, two police officers went to the MPesa store to arrest the operator when the revolt issued.
The MPesa person reportedly sounded the alarm, claiming the officers were thieves and prompting the locals to turn on the officers and beat them mercilessly.
An M-Pesa operator was also reportedly injured in the Saturday night incident and is currently being treated at Mater Hospital.
Joseph Muchiri who is the local OCPD said the investigation was ongoing but no casualties had been identified.
