M-Pesa woman narrates how scammer conned her: “Mimi Waliniosha Sh98K”

A woman, identified by her social media name as Wangari M has shared a chilling experience Inthe hand of M-Pesa scammer.

The woman says she owns an M-Pesa shop alongside chemicals.

On the 27th June, she says, a woman came to buy bleaching powder telling her that she has been sent by someone but she doesn’t know the specific quality.

The scammer woman then borrowed the M-Pesa woman a phone so that she can call her friend for confirmation.

Little did the M-Pesa woman know that the scammer woman used the opportunity to save her number as 0722000000, a known safaricom number.

“have an Mpesa shop alongside the chemicals, Jana kuna mama alikuja kununua chemicals za bleach, she said ametumwa na mtu amchukulie and she doesn’t know the quantity to carry, nimsaidie simu apigie rafiki yake aulize. Gave her my phone, later I received a call from 0722000000,” Said Wangari M.

The woman says she later received a call she note was from the fake safaricom telling her they want to do some updates which she believed at first.

Shortly after, the scammer gave her instructions to deposit raising eyebrows that she is being conned.

“Apparently from “Safaricom” telling me wanataka kufanya update. I believed at first, ..kidogo kidogo wakanipea instructions za deposit, nikajua I’m being conned. Kumbe the lady saved her contact with 0722000000. She was asking for every other item in the shop bila kubargain.” She added.

“Also they came with another guy, mama akinunua bleach huyu mwingine anaitisha perfume,.. buying time ili asave number. Ningeoshwa floats yote jana.”

“Also they were two, they were calling together huyu akijifanya admin, ati wanafanya update atafunga..hii ndio number huyo mama alipigia ili apate number yangu.” She added.

Confirming his experience, another social media user, Maxwell Otieno said he is still traumatised after being conned sh96k.

“Waah! These scammers come up with new ideas everyday. Mimi waliniosha Ksh 96,567 and this made me to almost get killed. Let me share my story, I’m still troubled talking about this incident.”
