Caroline Wanjiku Mwangi, 25, is in police custody after she was caught attempting to smuggle cocaine through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on her way to Goa, India. The suspected drug mule was intercepted by officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit moments before boarding her flight.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives conducting routine passenger checks at JKIA flagged Wanjiku’s luggage for further inspection. Inside, they discovered two smaller bags concealed within her main suitcase.
Upon closer examination, the officers uncovered a white powdery substance wrapped in yellow cellotape. A preliminary field test confirmed the substance to be cocaine, weighing approximately 1.3 kilograms.
Wanjiku was immediately arrested and is currently being held at the JKIA Police Station as investigations continue. She is expected to be arraigned in court soon to face drug trafficking charges.
The seized narcotics have been secured as evidence and will be presented during the court proceedings.
Authorities have lauded the swift action by the Anti-Narcotics Unit, emphasizing the government’s commitment to curbing drug trafficking through Kenyan airports.
