Kenya Africa National Union Party KANU spokesman Nyainde Manasse says Job Waka has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer.

Waka has been the Director of Party Organization in KANU for the last 10 years which he is said to have fueled that machine with his industry, toil, and intellect and has been able to hold it afloat for that period.

Fully story as written by Nyainde Manasse, the newly appointed KANU spokesman:

“Immediately after the 2022 general elections were conducted, @jswakawaka  disappeared from the limelight for quite some time. For some of us who had worked with him, his absence was quite disturbing.

But after around two months, he resurfaced, this time around looking conspicuously frail. We then opted to have lunch in early October at the Golden Spot Restaurant in Kilimani.

It is then that he broke the news to me: he had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer and he had decided to vanish for a while in a bid to come to terms with his new but devastating condition.

As time went by, his resilience came to the fore. Despite the excruciating pain he was undergoing, he remained stoic in the face of a debilitating condition and determined to defeat cancer at all costs.

In December, he underwent surgery in a bid to get rid of the tumor and stall its attempt to metastasize from its primary site to other crucial body parts. In his characteristic grit, he came out even stronger.

If you have ever worked with Job, you’d know that his name – Waka – means business: that is a worker.

For the last over ten years that he worked as the Director of Party Organization in KANU, he fueled that machine with his industry, toil, and intellect and has been able to hold it afloat for that period.

Then in March 2023, he was appointed the Executive Director – essentially the Chief Executive Officer of KANU – to steer the ship from a position of power and authority, in a sweeping change of leadership within the party.

For the three months he has been at the helm, he has revolutionized how the party works, often stern when circumstances demand so, quite easy most times, and at all times insisting on professionalism and merit.

At the same time, @jswakawaka is a sports enthusiast, a social entrepreneur, and currently the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Sterling Sports Inc. and Michezo TV.

In the last year, he has organized and superintended several tournaments and competitions in Nakuru and Nairobi, including football, street football, futsal, bike riding, and most importantly basketball, to which he is so much attached.

A fortnight ago, despite the bodily agony he was experiencing due to his complications, he staged one of the most interesting versions of football called Futsal at the Nyayo Volleyball Court: a five-aside, intense 10-minute game in which several teams participated.

And now, he has lined up a 4-day ladies’ basketball championship competition called the Sterling Under23 Gold Cup at the Nyayo Stadium Indoor Arena from 6th to 9th July 2023.

If there is one place you’d want to be that weekend and experience a touch of basketball, laughter, friendship, entertainment, solidarity, and the epitome of a solid resolve to crash cancer, then it would be Nyayo Indoor.

I may not stand with him in the most grandiose manner like sponsoring the championship as others have and pledged to but I will certainly show up and be present during the championship for a brother, colleague, comrade, neighbor, and a man with whom our fates are tied at the hip in the grand scheme of things.

I’ll also be setting up my office desk there, you can as well come and see me.”
