IEBC Issues Strong Warning After Election Violence, Clarifies Who Can Access Polling and Tallying Centres.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has issued a hard-hitting statement condemning widespread incidents of violence, intimidation and disruption that were reported in several parts of the country during the by-elections held on Thursday, 27th November 2025. In a sharply-worded press release signed by Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon, the Commission denounced what it termed as “acts of violence, hooliganism, and lawlessness” that have tainted electoral activities in certain regions.

The electoral body stressed that these acts undermine Article 86, which calls for simple, accurate, verifiable, secure, accountable, and transparent elections.
In addition to the constitutional violations, the IEBC noted that many of the reported incidents directly breach key legislation governing elections. These include the Elections Act, 2011, the Election Offences Act, 2016, and the Elections (General) Regulations, 2012.
