Gor Mahia Suspends Match After Raila Odinga’s Death as FKF Halts All League Fixtures

Gor Mahia Football Club has announced the suspension of its upcoming league match following the passing of former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, who also served as the club’s Patron. The decision comes shortly after the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) declared the suspension of all league fixtures in observance of the national mourning period declared by the government.

In a statement shared on their official X (formerly Twitter) account, Gor Mahia confirmed that their highly anticipated match against Posta Rangers, which was scheduled for Monday, October 20, 2025, has been postponed.

The statement read:

“🟢 | MATCH SUSPENDED
In accordance with the presidential directive for a seven-day national mourning period in honour of our club Patron Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, the Football Kenya Federation has suspended all league fixtures during this time. Consequently, our match scheduled for Monday, October 20 against Posta Rangers, has been postponed. A new date will be communicated in due course.

The club, popularly known as K’Ogalo, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Odinga, describing him as not only a respected national leader but also a lifelong supporter of Kenyan football. Raila Odinga was a passionate fan of the sport, often seen attending local matches and engaging with players and fans alike.

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) earlier issued a circular dated October 15, 2025, confirming the suspension of all league fixtures in respect of the late statesman. The statement, signed by FKF President Hussein Mohammed, stated that all scheduled matches would be put on hold for the duration of the seven-day national mourning period.

“Following the Government’s declaration of seven days of National Mourning in honour of the late former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has suspended all league fixtures scheduled during this period. We join the nation in mourning a great leader and passionate supporter of Kenyan football. May his soul rest in peace,” read the FKF statement.

The government’s directive has led to the suspension of various public activities, with sports federations, cultural organizations, and political leaders joining in paying tribute to Odinga’s legacy.

Gor Mahia’s decision aligns with the national mood, as the club’s management and fans unite in mourning the man who played a pivotal role in Kenya’s political and social landscape.
