His visit was unannounced, underscoring the importance of accountability and readiness at all times within the police service.

While addressing officers, Mr. Lagat commended the Kabete Police Station team for their dedication, vigilance, and professionalism in handling day-to-day policing duties. He urged them to maintain high levels of discipline and integrity as they serve the community. One of the key issues highlighted by the DIG was the need to intensify operations against phone snatching and related street crimes, which continue to pose challenges in Dagoretti and neighboring areas. He noted that such crimes affect residents’ safety and erode confidence in public security. The DIG emphasized the importance of proactive policing strategies, community intelligence sharing, and quick response to distress calls.

The National Police Service (NPS), through the leadership of DIG Lagat, reiterated its commitment to improving the welfare of police officers, enhancing service delivery, and strengthening community policing initiatives. According to the DIG, building trust between citizens and the police is essential to ensuring safer neighborhoods and reducing crime rates.

The surprise visit also sent a strong signal that top police commanders are closely monitoring performance at the grassroots level, and that accountability remains central to police reforms. Kabete residents are expected to benefit from the renewed focus on tackling crimes such as phone snatching, burglary, and traffic-related offenses.

As reforms within the National Police Service continue to take shape, such impromptu visits by senior officers are expected to become more frequent. They not only boost the morale of officers but also ensure that the public receives efficient and professional police services.
