Cherargei clarifies on link on US 1.6bn to LGBTQ court ruling.

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei defended the government against a controversial Supreme Court ruling on the rights of LGBT groups.

Speaking in the Senate on Thursday, Cherargei denied allegations that US First Lady Jill Biden visit last week and US donated Ksh.16 billion was linked to LGTBQ Court ruling.

He made it clear that the funding should not be confused with the US government’s LGBTQ promotion, which is opposed by Kenyans.

“There is a claim called Ksh. 1.6bn dollars given to the government to fight the drought is a courtesy to support gay pride in this country… I would say that is not true.” He added.

“Jill Biden’s visit has nothing to do with what’s going on. That’s why we oppose homosexuality in this country.” Cherargei said.

Legislator also congratulated President William Ruto and his deputy Rigati Gachagua on their strong condemnation of homosexuality in the country.

Although the court’s decision was called absurd, the senator insisted that he would oppose any attempt by Kenya to legalize same-sex relationships.

“The Kenyan government will not allow the problem of homosexuality in the country.” He said.

A day later, it was linked to a US government donation to support Kenya’s drought relief efforts, which the Agency for International Development (USAID) said were addressing the urgent needs of about 1.3 million people in Kenya.
