Barcelona have reached a verbal agreement to sign highly-rated Ecuadorian winger Josué Caicedo from LDU Quito in a deal that further underlines the club’s commitment to investing in elite young talent.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the move with his trademark “Here We Go”, revealing that the agreement is structured as an initial loan for Barcelona B, with an option to buy that could become a mandatory purchase. The total package is expected to be worth around €2.5 million.

Caicedo, born in 2007, is regarded as one of Ecuador’s brightest attacking prospects. The plan is for Caicedo to begin his European career with Barcelona Atlètic, where he will continue his development under the club’s renowned youth structure. Barcelona view the reserve team as the ideal environment for the winger to adapt to Spanish football before potentially earning opportunities with the senior squad.

The Catalan giants have increasingly focused on recruiting emerging South American talent rather than spending heavily on established stars. This strategy has helped Barcelona identify players with high potential while managing their financial resources more efficiently.

According to reports, Barcelona scouts were particularly impressed by Caicedo’s technical quality, acceleration and ability to play across multiple attacking positions. Although naturally a left winger, he is capable of operating on either flank, giving coaches greater tactical flexibility.

LDU Quito have developed several talented players who have gone on to enjoy successful careers abroad, and the Ecuadorian club will now hope Caicedo follows a similar path. The move also represents another important milestone for Ecuadorian football, which continues to produce exciting young players capable of competing at Europe’s biggest clubs.

If all formalities are completed, Caicedo will travel to Spain to finalize the transfer before joining Barcelona Atlètic for pre-season preparations. Supporters will be eager to see whether the teenage winger can develop into another success story from Barcelona’s youth recruitment model.

While he is unlikely to feature immediately for the first team, the club believes the long-term investment could prove to be another smart piece of business.
