A well-known Nairobi matatu dubbed “Uppercut,” famous for its flashy design and loud music, has crashed in Nyeri County just hi hours after being filmed dangerously swerving on Thika Road. The customized matatu, part of the “Nganya” culture celebrated by some youth, overturned while carrying passengers, leaving the vehicle severely damaged.

Before and after images circulating online show the extent of the damage, with the once-pristine matatu reduced to a wreck. Witnesses say the vehicle lost control at a sharp bend before flipping, throwing the chaotic ride to a tragic end.

Kenyans online are now criticizing the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) for allegedly ignoring repeated social media warnings about the matatu’s reckless behavior. Videos of “Uppercut” veering across lanes had gone viral, but no action seemed to follow.
