“Kapweria Secondary School students in Narok County took to the streets on Monday morning to protest poor performance in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results. The students, expressing frustration over what they termed as “unfair results,” marched from Chepkoiyet-Chesoen bridge to the Emurua Dikirr Education Offices.
Angry Protest Over KCSE Performance
The students, chanting slogans and carrying placards, accused the school administration and local education authorities of failing to provide the necessary support for academic success. They alleged negligence in teaching quality, insufficient resources, and poor leadership as factors contributing to their disappointing results.
One protester, who chose to remain anonymous, stated:
“We worked hard, but the results do not reflect our efforts. We demand accountability from the school administration and the education office.”
Impact on Traffic and Security Concerns
The demonstration caused significant traffic disruption along the Chepkoiyet-Chesoen bridge, with vehicles being forced to stop as the protestors occupied the road. Local authorities have since been deployed to monitor the situation and ensure the protest remains peaceful.
Narok County police commander confirmed that security personnel had been dispatched to de-escalate tensions and prevent any incidents of violence.
Education Officials Respond
When reached for comment, a representative from the Emurua Dikirr Education Office said that a meeting would be held to address the students’ grievances. The official, who declined to be named, emphasized the need for calm and dialogue.
“We are aware of the concerns raised by the students and are committed to investigating the matter. Our goal is to improve education standards in the region,” the representative said.
Parents Weigh In
Parents have expressed mixed reactions to the protest. Some supported the students’ call for reforms, while others criticized the demonstration as disruptive.
“The students have a point, but they should have followed proper channels to air their grievances instead of disrupting public order,” said one parent.
Call for Immediate Action
The students have vowed to continue with their protests until their concerns are addressed. They are demanding an overhaul of the school’s administration, improved resources, and better teaching practices.
This protest highlights growing dissatisfaction among learners in under-resourced schools, raising questions about the government’s commitment to ensuring quality education for all.
