In a bold move to demand the implementation of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), the National Movement for Old Pension Scheme (NMOPS) National Executive Committee has announced a nationwide protest against the Unified Pension System (UPS). Scheduled for Tuesday, January 28, 2025, this symbolic act of burning UPS Government Orders (G.O.) will take place across schools, colleges, and offices throughout India.
The NMOPS has urged all employees under the National Pension Scheme (NPS) to join the protest and amplify the call for OPS. They claim the UPS does not adequately address employees’ financial security compared to the earlier OPS.
Slogans such as “No NPS, No UPS, Only OPS” have been widely circulated among supporters, reflecting their dissatisfaction with current policies. The movement highlights the growing discontent among public sector workers who demand a pension scheme that guarantees long-term stability.
The protest underscores a critical moment in India’s pension policy debate. With increasing pressure on the government to reconsider its stance, the NMOPS aims to unify employees across the nation under a common cause.
